Alma Thomas was an American artist and middle school art teacher and one of the notable American painters of the 20th century. I fell in love with her work after seeing an exhibit of her work at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Vibrant. Abstract. Joyful. Ms. Thomas broke barriers not only within her artwork but within the art space. She was the first Black woman to have a solo art show at the Whitney and to be included in the White House's permanent art collection. I love her BOLD approach to colors and how her work moves within the spaces of her neat, grid-like mosaics. I couldn't help but imagine how they colors could play within stationary of a new business.
